Father's Day Picks

Father's day is this weekend, and in true fashion, I am way behind in picking out gifts! I have had ideas running through my head of what to get DJ, my stepfather, and his dad, but the act of going and doing just sounds a lot easier than it actually is. Top it off with the fact that we have to ship our gifts since we don't live near family, and I become a total slacker. Maybe you're on the ball, and you have gifts picked out, your kids have spent the week making crafts, and you know exactly how you're going to spoil that special man in your life. Or, maybe you're like me, and just the thought of the going and doing sends you in to a near panic!

If you're panicking, let's take a collective deep breath, because I'm sharing my top Father's Day Gifts right here, right now.

I'm a big fan of these little shaving kits. I love DJ with a nice clean shaved face. The Art of Shaving starter kit includes a pre-shave oil, a shaving cream, an after shave balm, and a shaving brush.

DJ and I both have FitBitshttps://api.shopstyle.com/action/apiVisitRetailer?id=500236761&pid=uid6721-29704689-19, and we love them! We challenge each other and enjoy seeing who has more steps during the day. We even walk around the living room if we're short steps! And, we use them to decide on little jobs in the house- the person with the least steps has to do the dishes, or give the girls a bath, fold the laundry, whatever needs to be done that neither of us want to do!
This messenger tote from J. Crew is both stylish and functional. If the dad in your life travels a lot, this would be a great option for him!
DJ is definitely a polo-guy. He always appreciates getting clothes for Father's day or his birthday because he tells me all of the time that his clothing consists of his work shirts, pants, and shoes- all Tulsa logo'd. So, anytime he can get something that isn't work related, he can appreciate it. This blue option is perfect for when he's on the golf course, and even when he's at the office.
DJ has a ton of technology that he carries with him a lot. Either his iPhone, iPad, or a computer. This charge pak would be perfect for him.
In the fall, DJ is always traveling with the football team and he often works at the airport and on the plane breaking down film for the players and coaches. These bluetooth headphones would be perfect while he's on the go. And, maybe even when he's at home!

For those of you who have dads or husbands who appreciate more crafty gifts, you can check out a few of my favorites on my Pinterest board!

So, what are you getting your husband or dad for Father's Day?

Father's Day Gift Guide

Today, we're talking dads. Father's Day is on Sunday, and I thought it was time I dedicate a post to the best dad I know....
My girls have hit the dad jackpot with this guy!
I'm not quite sure how I got so lucky. I'll never forget the first time I really saw DJ and thought to myself, "Wow, why can't I get a guy like that." A few weeks later, we were dating, and within 4 months we were engaged. From early on, I knew this was the guy for me, and I knew what a great dad he would be.

He's dedicated, hard working, and he loves his girls.
I think it takes a pretty special man to be a dad of three little girls.
He definitely deserves to be celebrated; this day, and every day!

For real, DJ, I hit the jackpot and so did our girls! Thank you for loving me and for being the dad that you are!

Now, if you're a last minute shopper like me- you know your guy needs to be celebrated in a BIG way, but you just haven't had time to figure out how, I've put together the ultimate gift guide for you! And, everything is priced under $100.00!

I'm not sure about your husband (or your dad), but mine is pretty hard to buy for. I did some shopping, and I'm pretty sure he'd appreciate any of the above gifts. The Tie Bar is probably my favorite, because it's a modern nod to the classic Father's Day gift. But, I think he'd love the Bottle Loft from Uncommon Good. Since DJ travels a ton in the fall, a toiletry bag from One King's Lane would be perfect!

Have you decided how your celebrating your hubby (or your own dad) this weekend? Do tell! I'd love some fun ideas for an entire day worth of celebrating!

Father's Day 2013

Last night the girls and I had ice cream for dinner! We had spent the later part of the afternoon in G's room/playroom and it was a mess! I told them to clean up, and totally did not expect that either one of them would touch a toy as I ran downstairs to put something away. I decided to give them some time (and me some peace and quiet) before heading back upstairs to find the entire playroom picked up and clean! I was so shocked that I decided that they deserved ice cream for dinner! Yum!
The girls and I woke up this early and spent some time hanging out in Adalyn's nursery. I had hid DJ's father's day gift in her closet, so we went in to get it, and then just decided to play in there for a bit. MC climbed into the exersaucer and had so much fun playing!

We woke up DJ and G sang him a song and then we gave him his Father's day gifts: two football cases for his bowl footballs and told him he could go play golf in the next few weeks when he's off.

Afterwards, I made breakfast and we got ready for church.
After church DJ decided that he was taking us out for lunch as a Father's day gift to himself. I really wanted Los Cabos, but DJ actually had to go to the office this afternoon, so we didn't have much time to wait, so we went to Chili's instead.
After lunch we came home and after MC cried for a bit, she finally fell asleep and I turned on The Lion King for Gretchen, and then I took a nap too!
It's been a nice relaxing day! I wish DJ could've been home this afternoon, but i'm thankful we were able to spend this morning together, and that he's finally on his way home now!

I think tonight calls for a simple dinner and a movie! (It's raining outside or we would've made it to the pool!)

Candy Sayings & Hugs

This post is a little overdue, okay, a lot overdue, but at least it's going up! DJ and I decided to make his dad a gift basket full of candy for Father's day, rather than our usual boat gift, Lowe's gift card, or tool.

I also included "hugs" from the girls.
I found the 'hug' idea on Pinterest. I traced each of the girls hands, and glued string that was the length of their arms. Here's MC's tiny little hands!
I went to Target and found some items in the 1.00 section, and also purchased some candy. I found some of those firework poppers that you throw down on the ground, and wrote, "You're the best 'pops' we could ask for." DJ calls his dad 'pops', and it's sort of rubbing off on the grand kids too.
I found these water bombs in the 1.00 section.
As well as these Cry Baby Sour heads.
The top card was paired with "Good & Plenty" candy, and the bottom was paired with Skittles.
G made a 'hug' for Pops too.
And, we included real hugs as well!

Pics of The Girls

Before we left Muncie, I had pictures done for DJ's father's day gift. A local photographer, who has taken pictures for us before, came to the house two weeks after MC was born.

G never cooperates for pictures. It ends up with me being very frustrated for the way that she is acting, but somehow Megan K. (the photographer) always does a fantastic job capturing her smile. Now, i'll admit, i'm not sure how many photos are thrown out, but I'm always pleased with the amount we receive and with her editing.

Plus, we get the disc with copyright release, so I don't feel limited to how many prints we can give to our family and friends.

We used a few items with MC that I had made for Honey Pie Accessories, and I love how she captured them as well as MC.

She also didn't mind, outfit changes, or snapping a few extra pictures of myself with both girls.

If you're in the Muncie area, I highly recommend Megan Knipp Photography.

She has an amazing eye, great prices, and is easy to work with! Megan- we'll miss having you as our photographer!

"Walk a Little Slower Daddy": A Father's Day Tutorial

Last week, Gretchen and I made DJ a special Father's day gift. But, because he reads my blog, I couldn't post it until now. So, I realize, that it's way too late for you to do this yourself, but it would also be a great gift for a dad's birthday, or even for Christmas.

Supplies: a small canvas, paint, paintbrush, sharpie, newspaper, wet wash cloth, and the poem found here on dltk-kids. I set out all of the supplies before bringing Gretchen outside, and I also put her in an old t-shirt and left her pants off since we were painting her feet. I layed out several layers of newspaper, so we wouldn't get paint on the porch. I sat out the canvas, paint brush, and a paper plate for the paint. I used washable crayola paint, that cost around $2.00
Then, I painted each foot, one at a time, and pressed it onto the canvas; one foot on each side.
I picked her up and took her to the water spicket outside with a wet wash cloth to wash off her feet, and we set her painting in the sun to dry.
Once, the feet were dry, I wrote the poem on the canvas with a sharpie marker.
I won't show you my husband's reaction to this present, because we brought his presents in the bed and woke him up! But, I assure you, he liked it, and will be taking it to his office to display.

Father's Day Gift Ideas

I've been planning this post for a week, and I'm just now getting around to writing it. Father's day is THIS Sunday, and I'm proud to say, I just have to pick up a gift card and get our cards in the mail to my dad and DJ's dad. My husband received his father's day gift (a custom golf club) back in April. We tend to do better with this holiday, than with Mother's day!

I also found these great ideas: I spotted this while reading through my blog roll today. You can find the directions to make this beer mug here. It's just butterscotch candy and marshmallows in a beer mug, but so cute!
I found this desk bowl on Etsy for only $16.00. You can find it here.
My husband and father-in-law both love to grill. I think these custom spice jars are a neat idea, and it's only $12.00 for the set of 4. You can find it here.
We only have a daughter, but this sign would be neat for anyone with a boy and a girl. It's only $8.95, and you can find it here.

Need some more frugal (or fast) ideas?
~Take your child's photo with dad's favorite object- a soccer ball, football, etc.
~ Purchase a "D", and an "A" wood letters from a craft store, and take your child's picture with the letter "D" two times, and the letter "A" one time. Frame the pictures in a 3 photo frame to spell "DAD".
~ Head on over to DLTK-kids and print off some great Father's day craft projects to do with the kids this week! (I really like their foot prints poem)
~ Make your dad or hubby a candy bouquet, or just fill a bucket with some of his favorite goodies.
~ Have your kids make a homemade card.
Most importantly, let dad relax for the day and remind him what a great father and husband that he is!
