Kids Book Club: Preschool Books & Activities Edition

Hey guys! It's been a while since we've had a Kids Book Club around here, but today I wanted to share MY favorite books for preschool age kids!

We are huge book lovers around here! I absolutely love finding new books to read to the girls, and reading is a part of our nightly bed time routine.

And, since we still have a preschooler in our house, we've been able to collect a few favorites over the last 9 years.
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is a fun rhythmic that helps to teach letters. This one is just fun and easy to read. And, if you're looking for a fun craft activity, you can make a tree using construction paper (have your child glue on the leaves) and then stamp out the alphabet letters! You can also find a ton of activities on Pinterest!
Adalyn loves all of the Llama Llama books! Our favorite is Llama Llama Red Pajama, but we also have an Easter book that she requests often! For a fun craft, have your child decorate their own pajamas! (just draw out a shirt and pants on copy paper and give your child stickers, crayons, sequins and other craft supplies!) Of course, there are a ton of Pinterest activities too!
Goodnight Moon will always be a favorite book around here.
We love all of the "If You Give A" books. And, if you're planning a kids book club day, then you're sure to find a lot of activities! Have your child draw their own mouse picture, bake chocolate chip cookies, paint a paper plate and glue on brown construction paper dots as chocolate chips!
Brown Bear, Brown Bear is one of our all time favorites! This one is easy to memorize, and it's great for working on sequencing skills for older preschoolers/kindergarten, and colors and animals for the toddlers and younger preschoolers.

This summer, I plan on incorporating more arts and learning lessons for the girls, and I've been pinning away! You can find my "Teaching the Girls" Pinterest board here.

What are your favorite preschool books?

Kids Book Club

Hey, friends! I'm not sure about y'all, but I could use a longer weekend! We were busy! Thankfully, we're excited for a fun week ahead with Valentine's parties, after school activities, and a birthday party!

Gretchen and I are kicking off this week by bringing you our 2nd Kids Book Club!
Gretchen absolutely loves to read! And we thought it would be fun to share with y'all some of her favorite books! Maybe you're like us, and always looking for new books for your kids to read! We're going to be sharing three of her recommendations!
First up.... Peter Pan!

Gretchen's Musical Theater class is doing a performance on Peter Pan later this Spring, so it's only natural that she'd recommend this book! !  Her favorite part of this classic novel is when Captain Hook sees his blood, which is a funny color, and it scared him. She said that Captain Hook's blood is the only thing that can scare him besides the crocodile. She recommends this book for boys and girls because it has things that girls would like, mermaids and fairies, but it also has pirates and adventures, which boys would like.

I'm sure we've all seen the movie, but it's always fun to compare a movie with the book, and could make for a really fun movie night, following the book!
Little Town on the Prairie is a sequel to the Little House on the Prairie. Gretchen likes this book because it's about pioneer life, and she says, "every word of it is true." There are other books in the Little House series, which talk about the life of Laura Ingalls Wilder. Her favorite part in the book is when all of the students make fun of their teacher, Mrs. Wilder! (Laura's future sister in law) She says that she would recommend the book for girls ages 8 through 13. It is a great book!

About a year ago, we  took the girls to see Laura Ingalls Wilder's farm in Missouri, and the girls had the best time! Gretchen's been obsessed with Laura Ingalls since then!
Her last recommendation is Little Women. And, can I be honest.... I don't think I have ever ready this book!

Little Women follows the life of  the March sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth, & Amy, while their father is away at war. The story takes begins around Christmas time, and the girls feel that it won't be Christmas without any presents. One of the sisters dies in the story and two of the sisters get married. Their father returns from war! Gretchen recommends this book for girls ages 9 through 15. Little Women was written by Louisa May Alcott, and some of the book is based on her own childhood.

I think that I need to put this one on my bookshelf and read it soon!

We'd love to hear your recommendations too! Which books is your child enjoying right now?

Kids Book Club

Happy Monday!!!! The girls and I are home since it's Martin Luther King Day, and the schools are closed! Yay! I can definitely use a three day weekend to get life back together again!

Today, I'm bringing you a brand new blog series!!!!!
Kids Book Club!!!!!!

The girls absolutely LOVE to read! Gretchen received over 30 new books for Christmas, and she's been reading her way through them. She always has a book in her hand. She carries multiple books to school every day, has a book box full of them, has them in the car, and all over her bed, closet, dresser...... books are everywhere!!!!

And, since she loves to read so much, I thought that every once in a while, she should bring you a Kids Book Club post!
Today, she's sharing three of her favorite books!

She was so excited when I asked her to help me with this special project. I told her about it last week, and when I reminded her that we needed to write this post, she immediately went upstairs and grabbed three books, and told me they were all her very favorite.

She's going to share a Magic Tree House book, an American Girl book, and a classic!
I like Tonight on the Titanic because it has history and magic all in one. It also tells about Camelot. The magician is the creator of the Magic Treehouse and takes Jack and Annie to places back in time. In this book, Jack and Annie go to the Titanic right before it hits the ice burg and helps two children escape.

Kids should read it because they can learn about history, but they don't have to be too bored. They'll be able to read about historic events that actually happened.
Catch the Wind is a book that is mainly for girls. It's a "choose your own ending book", which means that there are no chapters. Throughout the book, you have to make a decision about what you want to do. Once you make the decision, you turn to the page it tells you to go to. It's an American Girl book that takes the reader back in time to meet Caroline.

I would recommend this book because tells you about life and takes you to Sackets Harbor, New York during the War of 1812.
The Swiss Family Robinson is about a family that gets shipwrecked. The family has to build a raft with what is left on board to go to an island. When they get to the island, they have to learn to survive. The family builds a house and survives on the island, until a ship comes along. At the end of the book a ship rescues them, and two of of the brothers leave the island.

My favorite part of the book is when they are building their house.

I would recommend this book because it's a classic and it's amazing.

Yay! Wasn't Kids Book Club so much fun? Do your kids enjoy reading? What's their favorite book right now?
