So, today is not my typical Girl Mom post! Today ladies, i'm talking about how you can be a better mom by getting away from your kids! Just for a while, just for an evening or a weekend! Don't be afraid to take some time away and rejuvenate yourself and your relationship with your spouse!
When you're a girl mom, or just a mom, you need to take some time for yourself! Ladies, I'm challenging you to take one evening this week and do something for just for you! Actually, get your hubby involved too and do something fun for the both of you! And, don't talk about your kids while you're out! You'll come back feeling so much better and much more refreshed!
DJ and I did just this over the weekend as we traveled to Denver for two weddings! We used the weddings as a perfect excuse to get away, and it was fabulous! I'm pretty sure we haven't gotten away as just the two of us since Megan was about 9 months old, so we were way past due time!
My mom drove up on Thursday and was able to keep the girls for us for the weekend.
We flew out Friday morning and started out our trip with breakfast at the airport.
DJ did a little checking of his email and social media accounts.
On the plane headed to Denver!
In our rental car and ready to roll!
Y'all, we had NO plans. Seriously. We booked our flights, our car, and our hotel. Other than that we had no idea what we were going to do. We had a few ideas, but nothing specific and I loved that we were spontaneous the entire time we were gone.
This was about the time that I realized that I could not follow a GPS. I kept telling DJ to go straight and that he would eventually curve around. It took me about 5 minutes that we were the blue dot and that our blue dot was not on the blue line as it was suppose to be.
Driving in Denver, we came across the Broncos stadium.
We decided to eat lunch at Casa Bonita.
Now, I realize that if you are familiar with the restaurant at all, you're shaking your head at us. What were we thinking? I know. It was so horrible, that it was hilariously fantastic.
We decided to eat at CB, because one of our friends (one of the one's getting married) recommended it to us. He really wanted to propose here, because of childhood nostalgia, but he didn't get to.
We really had no idea what to expect, beside the fact that I grew up eating at a CB in Little Rock, and we knew that they served very average mexican food.
We walked through the endless twisting and turning of the aisles, until we finally got the register (think what you'd stand in while you're waiting to get on a roller coster.) We put in our order, weaved around more, picked up trays, silverware, and our food came flying out of a little hole in the wall and placed on our trays.
We finally walked into the restaurant where we were greeted with over the top mexican flair everywhere, and a big gigantic waterfall.
Our table had a little flat and anytime you wanted more food, or a drink, you just raised the little flag and the waiter would come over and bring more of whatever you wanted.
During our meal, we were entertained with a gut wrenching gorilla show (gut wrenching because it was so awful) and finally with a live dive from the waterfall into the pool below.)
I cannot make this stuff up.
Then I ate soapapillas, which was the best part of the meal.
After we ate, we explored the kids play area and the little kid maze/hideout thing, and checked out the gift shop and finally left.
Casa Bonita, thank you for the memories, but I don't think we'll be back soon.
After we ate, we decided to head up to Boulder to the University of Colorado and visit their video guy that DJ knows.
We checked out the football department, walked on the field, and then drove up to a little scenic over view. Those pics are on my camera, so you'll get those in another post. I know, you're totally bummed that you have to wait!
We left Boulder and drove through downtown Denver in rush hour traffic to check into our hotel. I may or may not have had a panic attack with the traffic.
We finally made it and I took a nap before we headed to the most incredible store on the planet…...
So, I've never been to Ikea, but thanks to Pinterest I had a good idea of what I was getting myself into. Or so I thought.
Y'all, it's heaven on Earth. I could write an entire blog post about my newfound love for Ikea, but I won't.
But, I will say, it's a two story store of happiness. I took millions of photos with DJ's phone so I could remember all of the ideas that I saw!
About half way through the upstairs, DJ realized there was no turning back. Once you're in, you're in. You cannot get out.
Just as I thought the store couldn't get any better, we walked downstairs and realized there was a child drop off area! You mean, I can drop off my children while I browse through endless home decorating and storage solution ideas that are so darn cheap, I don't even know how they afford themselves.
Count me in.
After we daydreamed our way through Ikea, we went to eat at J. Alexanders and I may have had the best steak and mac-n-cheese in my entire adult life.
This restaurant was so fancy, that I felt like I shouldn't pull out my cell phone and snap selfies or pics of the food! But, let me tell you, that mac-n-cheese, totally put Panera's mac-n-cheese to shame.
You can totally tell that I dine fancy!
So see, be a great mom and do something for yourself! Or for your marriage!
You totally deserve it!
What's your favorite way to get away?
