Happy Friday friends! It's the Friday before Thanksgiving, and I'm not sure about y'all, but we are pumped to celebrate next week! The girls are out of school, their Nana is coming to Austin for her first visit and game day, we'll celebrate the holiday, and soon, it'll be the last game for Texas this season! (Well, we're really rooting for OU or West Virginia to loose one of their next two games and for us to win out, because that would mean championship game!!)
After Thanksgiving, I'm decorating a little for Christmas, but the countdown is officially on! And, I'm excited!
I'm linking up today with Andrea, Erika, and Narci to share my Friday Favorites. A little random assortment of my favorite things from the last week or so :) If you're new here, I'd love for you to leave me a comment to say hi, so I can check out your favorites too!
First up, we had our very first room tour on the blog this week! I was finally able to finish the girls bedrooms (besides curtains) but I shared Megan's room on Monday. If you missed the post, you can check it out here!
Since football season is winding down a little, DJ is finally motivated to help me get more photos and things hung in the new house, so hopefully we'll have more room reveals soon!
Last month, I ordered this lotion from Young Living, and I'm officially declaring it my new favorite. For so long, I've used an unscented lotion, because synthetic fragrances are bad y'all, but this one is heavenly and is made with clean ingredients and essential oils. Yes, please.
It's thick with a light floral scent and I'm obsessed.
At the end of October, I talked to Adalyn about how she had to quit sucking her thumb. Yes, she's 5, yes, she's tried before, and yes, she's my baby, so this is harder on me than it is on her. DJ had done a great job back in June getting her to stop, and then we went on several vacations, DJ took the job at UT and moved, we were busy selling our house in Tulsa and getting settled in Austin... it was football season... basically, I had a ton of excuses and it wasn't a battle I was willing to fight.
Then, I told her that if she could go X amount of days without sucking her thumb, that I would buy her a new toy. Bribery at it's finest.... later that afternoon, she brought me her ballet baby and told me she didn't need it anymore. Cue the tears. She's had it since she was 6 months old. She let me apply thumb polish... it tastes bitter so if she were to put it in her mouth, she would get an awful taste.... without crying, and for 14 days, I only caught her sucking her thumb once for a brief moment. I reminded her about her toy, and she hasn't sucked her thumb since. So, on Saturday, I took her to the store, and she picked out a toy from her favorite TV show, Spirit.
If she can go more days, then she'll get a bigger toy (we decided to break it down in to smaller, more manageable days versus the 30 we had originally talked about.)
Anyway, I think she's officially a quitter in the thumb sucking department, and that is a good thing y'all!
Sunday afternoon, the girls and I went to see The Nutcracker and it was so good! The girls loved it! There was a little bit of dancing, Morgan Freeman was in it, and I think while it's a little girly, a boy would like it as well.
If y'all have a kitchen aid, the recipe we use came in the kitchen aid cookbook, and it's yummy!
I was off on Monday, so DJ and I met for lunch at Italic. A quaint little Italian restaurant in downtown Austin.
And we were both in love with our food. It was a cold day, and our food was warm and savory, and we'll for sure be going back to try out a few other items on their menu!
Our favorite diffuser blend this week has been Christmas Spirit and Peppermint.
And we finally bought Bailey a new dog bed, since our move, and it's safe to say that it's a favorite of hers too! It's super soft, and i'm hoping with the furry fabric, it won't show dog hair as bad?
The girls brought home Slime from school on Wednesday, which is definitely not a favorite. The third graders at their school had a market day, and they were able to buy products that the kids made and all proceeds went to an animal foundation. Which, I thought was pretty cool, so each kiddo took a few quarters, and came home with some goodies. Some were wonderful, and others, not so much.
Megan will have this market day next year, so I'm trying to plan ideas now that won't take up too much time, but also, that parent's won't hate me if their kid brings it home.... like the slime.
Whew! I think that wraps up my favorites today!
We're off to pick up Nana from the airport and we'll be cheering on the Longhorns Saturday night if you're looking for us :)
Hook 'em!
