Gretchen's 16th Birthday Trip to DC

My mom wanted to take Gretchen on a trip for her 16th birthday that was in January. We debated on New York City, but decided it would be way too cold! So Gretchen chose a trip to DC!
We had to be at the airport at 4 am for the first flight out! It was a super early wake up call!
But she was much better once she got some Starbucks.

We had breakfast at our layover in St. Louis, and then made it to DC around noon.

We caught an uber from the airport.

And dropped our bags off at our Air B&B. It was the bottom floor of a cute rowhouse in Capital Hill.

Then we headed to one of the Smithsonian museums.

The shoes from the Wizard of Oz.

Hamilton's outfit.

Then we saw the inaguration dresses for all of the First Ladies.

We also saw the Star Spangled Banner flag, but you can't take pictures inside.

Afterwards, we walked to the Washington Monument.

We grabbed dinner, and called it a night!

The next day we headed to the Farmer's Market on Capital Hill for breakfast.

And it was delicious!

Another day, another Smithsonian Museum.

The crystal in the front is from Arkansas so we had to take a picture!

We saw the Hope Diamond.

The cherry blossoms were just starting to bloom in DC when we were there.

That afternoon we walked through the Memorials.

Jefferson Memorial was probably my favorite.

Then we rode a pedicab over to Rosevelt's Memorial.

He is Gretchen's favorite president so of course we had to take a lot of pictures.

Standing in line for the soup kitchen.

We walked all the way around to see the Jefferson Memorial.

And I couldn't help but to break out in song from Hamilton.

We took an Uber back to Capitol Hill and had pizza for dinner.

And since everything closes early in DC- we got ready for bed and played a game of Scrabble.
