I love home tours.... they're probably my favorite blog posts to read. I have always had a heart for decorating... it's in my genes. My grandmother was the best decorator. She always had a gorgeous home with accessories and knick knacks placed in just the right places.
I remember as a little girl, helping my mother and grandmother rearrange furniture and decorate for the holidays. Those are some of my fondest childhood memories.
A few weeks ago, while the girls were at school, I decided to dig out our Easter decorations and clean the house. Which, also led to moving around furniture and rearranging. Just like my grandma would have done. I felt her near to me that day.
Since I haven't shared a living room tour, I thought I'd combine one today with our Easter decorations.
Enjoy.
When we moved here, I was sad that our home didn't have a fireplace. I wasn't sure what the focal point would be, but we decided on these bookcases and unit from Ikea. I mean, we needed something fast, and I loved the built in bookcases in our last home.
To be honest, I wanted something different, but it wasn't in the immediate budget. DJ wanted modern. Anyway, Ikea is super affordable and our realtor gifted us an Ikea Gift Card on our closing, so we bought our bookcases.
And now, I love them.
We have plans to add shiplap on the wall behind, but that will come in time.... probably when shiplap is going out of style. (Please don't ever go out of style!)
Our end table came from Target. I had been wanting a new end table for years, and I eventually found the perfect excuse to grab this one when I found it on sale. Our previous end table was from Wal-Mart- we had bought it right after we got married; we were due time for a new one.
I've had this drum table for years; it was my grandmother's. I love having pieces of hers in our home. Pieces with a history. A story.
I don't remember exactly when it was, but one day I came home, and my mom and grandma had painted it. I love that every time they would visit together, we would furniture shop, rearrange furniture, or re-decorate- simply because we were together.
During Christmas, I missed not having a mantle. At the time, our TV was on the stand, and we since had it hung on the wall. So now, I have the perfect space to decorate to my little heart's content.
My mother in law has always gifted us the Christmas villages, and I've never, ever been able to get them out because I didn't have the space. Now, I know exactly where they'll go next Christmas.
Anyway, this was the perfect space for a few Easter decorations on my tiered tray.
Here's a similar option, and it's on sale!!
My mom gave me the little wooden bunnies.
This little bunny came from Hobby Lobby, and the little vase came from Magnolia.
My lantern came from Kirklands, the bunny from Hobby Lobby, and the carrots from Target's Dollar Spot.
I have this little sign hanging on our bookcase.
This little sofa table is over by our stairs. I found our Texas "home" sign at The Findery in Waco.
Here's a view of the living/dining room from our stairs.
I bought this little felt bunny banner from Target a few years ago.
Our bookcases are filled with random odds and ends, and photographs. So many of the pieces in here have a story.
Like the "rock" we found on the beach on our Disney Cruise.
The plate I bought in Italy. The "W" from Harp Design Co.
The Waterford candle holders my grandmother bought me when she was in Germany.
A heart shaped bowl and stand from Magnolia.
I felt like our bookcases needed something on top. These pieces came from Kirkland with the exception of the candle stand.
My wreath is here. I tried to find the sign, but I can't find it on Kirkland's site :(
The other side has these pieces. A wooden tray, a vase that I use to have my wedding bouquet in, and a lantern my mother bought for me.
Our coffee table, holds a few books I'm reading, and this candle runner, and a little tray of colored eggs.
We've had our sofa pillows for a while, but I bought them at Home Goods.
And I have a few tobacco baskets on the wall.
............................................................................................................................................................
Alright, on to a few other Easter decorations around the house.
We have this tiny table that we bought from Hobby Lobby, that holds our salt lamp, and a pewter bowl I bought from when we lived in Louisiana.
I added a vase of colored eggs to the table as well.
Our side board, has a pewter deviled egg tray that my grandmother bought me in Louisiana... a few eggs that were my mother's, a wooden sign from Target, and I filled my grandmother's old pitcher with a few fake flowers.
Our dining room table has a little bunny boy that my grandmother bought me.... are you seeing a theme here?
One of her gold candlesticks, little bunny salt & pepper shakes, and my great-grandmothers old bread baking bowl filled with grass and these eggs.
When I decorate my dining room table, I like to keep everything simple. We eat around this table, so I want it to be kid friendly with easy sight lines, and I don't want to have to scoot something out of the way each night.
These eggs are my favorite. I just love the simplicity placed in my grandmother's old bowl.
I sure hope you enjoyed this little home tour.
And, I must know- do you decorate for every holiday or is it just a southern tradition that my mother and grandmother passed down to me?
