Dear Gretchen,
Seven years ago today you were born. Seven years ago, I became a mom. You made me a mom. For that, I thank you.
I thank you for teaching me about unconditional love. I never knew a love that a mother could have for her child until you were born. You were perfect. You are perfect.
Every day you teach me. You open my eyes to things that you love. You open my eyes to new adventures and you show me the excited simplicity of little things through your eyes. You get so excited to show me things. Your pictures, the way that you read, when you learn something new. I love your excitement for life. It's contagious.
I love your girly ways. I love that you wear dresses. I love that your favorite color is pink. I love that you love Barbies and princesses.
Your love for Jesus is beyond control. I am so happy that you already love Jesus and that you are excited to read and learn more. I love our Bible studies together, and spending time with just you and me. I pray that one day, you'll do something BIG for Jesus! I know that you have the determination to make a difference.
I love your kind heart. Thank you for loving your sisters, even when it's hard. Thank you for playing with your sisters and making them giggle. You are setting such a big example for them. You are leading the way, and you are doing a mighty fine job!
I am so excited that I get to spend every single day with you. I love that you are not embarrassed yet by my presence. I love that you jump out of your chair when I walk into your classroom, or those moments that you want me to walk you to class. I love when you walk into my office at the end of the day, excited to tell me about yours. Thank you for making me slow down and listen. I love that you run up to me in the hallway, after lunch, at recess, and that you greet me with a big hug and kiss. I'm so thankful that I get to take you to school every day.
You have big dreams for life. This weekend, you want to be a fashion designer. You just started saying that on Friday night, but you've drawn and designed clothes all weekend. You're really starting to take an interest when I sew. You also have said that you want to be an artist or that you want to be a singer. Taylor Swift is your favorite, and last week, you and a few girls formed a Rock Star club and all dressed the same! You've always loved to sing, and you often make up your own songs- you have since you were three! You have passion. I pray that you will do anything and everything you set your mind to!
I can't wait to see what this year has in store for you! I can't wait to see how much you grow and learn and change! You love fiercely, you are spirited, and independent. It's such a blessing to see you write your story with God's gentle guidance. I'm so thankful that He chose me to be your mommy. It's an adventure and a gift that every single day, I'm thankful for.
Happy Birthday baby girl! May your 7th birthday, and your 7th year be your best.
Love you to the moon & back,
Your mommy
