After spending two weeks away in Colorado, Salt Lake City, The Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone, it was time to head home. We sent Gretchen with my parents and she spent the rest of July traveling with them to Glacier, the west coast, the Redwood Forest, Yosemite, and Las Vegas. The rest of the crew that was camping with us (remember, there were 6 families and 18 people in all) traveled to Glacier and then to Mount Rushmore before they headed home. DJ and I knew that 2 weeks was long enough to be away and we really needed to get back. I definitely wish we could have stayed longer though. This was a camping trip that I wish would never had ended.
By the time we woke up and headed south, the rest of our crew was long gone and driving toward Glacier. Gretchen spent the night with my parents in their camper and they were all up and off early.
We weren't too far behind them.
I had to take a few more pictures of the gorgeous scenery before we settled in for our drive through Wyoming. Which, is the most boring state ever to drive through. There was nothing but land. I think we only drove through one "big" town and at one point, we were fairly certain we wouldn't make it on the gas we had.
We eventually made it to Fort Collins, Colorado and pulled in to the KOA campground. The girls were super excited about the pool.
We hadn't camped at a KOA before but apparently they all have different activities set up and the girls were happy to stay put and explore.
We rented a paddle boat and rode around the pond.
DJ and Megan paddled while Adalyn and I sat in the back and enjoyed.
And then we played on their bumper boats.
There was also a gigantic jump pad where Megan practiced her gymnastics and Adalyn spent time going down the inflatables. We eventually had dinner, showered, and enjoyed a movie before calling it a night.
The next day we drove through Denver, and I had to take a picture of the Broncos stadium for one of my patients. He's a big Broncos fan. We stopped for lunch and then continued our drive south to Pueblo.
We stayed at another KOA.
Once we got settled, I spent some time cleaning. After being gone for 2 weeks, our camper was a mess.
And DJ used his salt gun to kill some flies. If you need a gift for any man in your life, this is hands down what you should buy.
While we were cleaning, these girls decided to dress up in their cowboy hats and badges.
We decided to head to Pueblo's river walk to explore.
and we ate an early dinner at a pizza restaurant. The girls were able to make their own pizza's at the table, which was so fun!
They brought all of the toppings they asked for, and then took it back to cook.
Our waitress overheard that it was Adalyn's birthday, so she brought cannolis for the birthday girl.
And we explored the river walk a bit more.
We went back to the campground and I did a few loads of laundry while the girls played on the playground with DJ. By this time, we were running out of towels, and clothes. We hadn't done laundry since we left Salt Lake City.
DJ built a fire and we made s'mores one last time.
S'mores, sunsets, family.... it's all pretty wonderful.
