I have been wanting to do a "day in the life of" posts since February, and somehow our days never seemed normal enough, or I forgot, or DJ was out of town, and honestly, I probably just forgot!
Until last Wednesday!
So, even though it's the last week of school , and our lives are still far from normal, I wanted to capture what our day is like while Gretchen is in kindergarten, and while football isn't in "season", and what it's like in our every day routine!
Because, I'm learning, our life is far from normal.
I wake up around 6:10 am. My alarm goes off earlier but I always snooze at least once.
Once I get up, i'm in the shower, and DJ's in the bed. Megan would've been in bed with us, because she woke up around 5:15, but DJ saved the day, and got her asleep back in her bed.
Once, I'm out of the shower, DJ gets in, and I start getting dressed.
For some reason, I lay a towel on my countertop, dump out the contents of my make up bag into my sink, and then I sit on the countertop and put on my make up. There's something about being close up to the mirror, and not having to lean in, and i'm tired, so I get to sit down, and that's a plus.
At some point, Megan rolls in and is either happy or really emotional.
Gretchen usually sleepily walks in our room around 6:40.
I was able to get my make up on and my hair finished before I woke Adalyn up.
She was NOT thrilled about being woke up and having a flash in her face so early in the morning!
I get her up and we go straight to the couch to nurse. I don't even change her diaper first thing. She gets too upset if I get her up and lay her right back down.
As Adalyn was nursing, I informed Gretchen that she could not wear this dress to school. She at least needed a shirt underneath or a sweater on top. I finally convinced her to change clothes.
DJ was getting Megan dressed.
She came out wearing a t-shirt, and minky dot pants. I then had to convince Megan to go put on shorts! It was going to be 85 that afternoon, and I knew she'd swelter! Although, I think she really is cold natured, because she insists that it's still perfect for winter clothes in the spring.
She came back out wearing a skirt, and then wore her backpack around the house.
DJ loads the little girls' belongings in his car while I get their hair fixed.
DJ left around 7:40 and took the little girls to daycare.
I was able to eat, finish putting on my clothes, loaded the dishwasher, and I started a load of laundry.
Gretchen and I were out the door by 8:10.
We drive down and wait for the bus.
She wanted to take a kissing picture and send it to daddy.
After putting her on the bus, I went to work.
I did not take pictures or keep up with my work day. Mostly, because I'm not seeing kids right now, I have recess and lunch duty, and I was crazily trying to finish up my end of the year progress reports.
I left work at 2:45 in order to run downtown to our main offices in order to turn in my ipads and to get clearance for end of the year check out.
Then I went to Wal-Mart. I had to pick up ribbon, and a few other things and I did not want to go to two stores, so I just sucked it up and went to Wal-Mart. I hate Wal-mart.
The lady in front of me had all these toys in her basket, individual checks that she was transferring on to gift cards and then she checked out one by one. Seriously. I stood in line for 10 minutes. I timed it.
Then I picked up my littles from daycare and we drove home.
Megan is all about listening to "my music" in the car. Since my car is still in the shop, I was somewhat thankful that I had a horrible Josh the Otter cd in the cd player.
I texted my neighbor to tell him to bring Gretchen home.
I held Adalyn while I carried in the grocery bags two by two. I think it took me 5 times to get everything out of the car.
I finally sat down to nurse Adalyn.
Then, I put her in the high chair and started dinner and put away the groceries.
This is about what my counter tops look like when we walk in. My house goes from spotless to a disaster in 0.05 seconds.
We had Mix and Match Mama's Salsa Chicken & Shells for dinner.
The girls watched t.v. while I prepped dinner.
DJ came home and took over feeding Adalyn.
Once the pasta was in the oven, Meggie and I went to work on our end of the year teacher gifts.
She stuffed the cups with candy.
We ate dinner and Adalyn crawled around.
She was so happy!
Then, DJ and the big girls went to pick up a mattress and box springs that a GA was giving to us. So I cleaned up the kitchen while Adalyn played some more.
Around 6:40, I put her in the tub.
She and I played for a little bit and then I rocked her for a bit and put her in bed right after 7.
I stuffed her diapers (she wears cloth at daycare) and I turned on an awful lifetime movie. It's been a while since I've enduldged in a lifetime movie, and now I remember why.
DJ and the girls came home at 7:40.
We put them in the tub and finally got them in bed around 8:20.
There are some nights where Gretchen and I will read Charlotte's Web. Last night was not one of them.
Megan insists on this bedtime routine we started a month or so ago- We count to 10, sing three songs (I See the Moon, ABC's, and Jesus Loves Me), then we say Tick Tock followed by Now I Lay You Down to Sleep.
Then she typically begs me to stay with her or at least promise that i'll come back and check on her.
Most nights she falls asleep in the hallway. Not last night!
I finished my lifetime movie, worked on the computer, and then around 9, DJ came back into the living room with me to watch the WW2 series that was on History Channel. (He refused to watch my lifetime movie, so he was in our bedroom watching t.v. while I finished it.)
I fell asleep on the couch somewhere around 10.
DJ woke me up at 10:30 and I went straight to bed.
So, there you have it! A pretty typical day in the life of a girl mom!
