1st Grade Fun!

It's really hard to believe that I have a 1st grader!

Gretchen is loving first grade, and this year, we made the choice that Gretchen would attend the elementary school where I work. It's a choice that I do not regret at all. I get to take her to school every day. I can walk her to her classroom. I can eat lunch with her, see her on the playground, and hear about her day as soon as it's over. I am so thankful that she is with me on a daily basis.

A few weeks ago, our school had a walk-a-thon fundraiser. All of the student's were asked to collect money from sponsors, and then on a certain day, they would spend about 20 minutes walking. Gretchen raised over $100.00 for her school and with that comes the privilege of getting to throw a pie in a teacher's face! Guess who she chose?

On Friday, I'll not only allow Gretchen to pie me in the face, but any of the 60+ other students who raised $100.00 or more, will have the opportunity to throw a pie in my face. I promised on Facebook that I would video the pie throwing and i'll be sure to share it!
The day of the walk-a-thon, I was able to go out and walk with Gretchen.
We had lots of fun walking for our school!

And, the school raised over $12,000.00! All of which goes directly to teachers!

Last week was Red Ribbon Week. Gretchen was able to participate in dress up days each day.
The first day was, "dress up as someone who shows good character". Gretchen chose a fairy princess, because, duh.

Tuesday was "wear red" and I didn't get a picture because she was just in a red shirt :)
Wednesday was, "dress as what you want to be when you grow up." Gretchen chose to be a doctor.
I chose to be a gym teacher! Because I needed any excuse to wear yoga pants to work!
Thursday was super-hero day, so Gretchen borrowed her friend's superman costume.
Friday was book character day, which was also Halloween, so the little girls were able to dress up too. Gretchen went as Sofia the First. Megan was Rapunzel, and Adalyn was a TU cheerleader.

The grade level that had the most dress up participation won an extra recess, and Gretchen's class won! She was so excited!

Today is the 50th day of school and the 1st grade is celebrating with a Sock Hop! I'll be sure to blog about it, but Gretchen is all decked out in her poodle skirt, and is so excited for her sock hop this afternoon and their Root Beer Floats!

She also has a field trip later this month that she's really excited about!

First grade has been lots of fun and i'm thrilled with her teacher and everything she's learning! It's going to be a great year!
