Come On In: A Living Room Update.

So, it's been a while since I've done a little home tour, but we've had some changes in our living room since we moved in a year ago. This was one space, I wanted to update, but it took some time to get exactly what we wanted.
When we first moved in, we brought our green sofa with us and we used a rug that we had in our dining room, but the rug was too small for the space.
This is looking from our kitchen in to the dining room.

Anyway, I just didn't really love what we had, and then at the end of summer, we were able to purchase a new sofa, curtains, and a larger rug.
And this is how our living room looks today. We brightened up the space at the end of last summer with our new sofa, rug, and curtains. And then we left it at that, until a few weeks ago. We purchased a new leather chair and a new cocktail table.  I shifted the layout of the furniture around a bit to make sure that DJ's leather chair had plenty of room to recline.

#priorities
In the back of our living room, I've set up the girls play kitchen and table & chairs. They spend hours playing in their kitchen and doing arts and crafts at their little table. The tall set of drawers contains all of their play food.
And looking out from our kitchen in to the living room.
When we originally purchased our sofa we were leaning toward leather, but I also wanted something light because our floors were so dark. I also didn't want a sectional, and I knew I wanted nail-head trim. This sofa was perfect. The navy throw pillows came from Pottery Barn.
I had the hardest time picking out our cocktail table. I had no idea what I wanted, other than I knew I wanted it to have a shelf underneath for baskets to hold the girls toys. Which, I haven't found the perfect baskets yet. I'm holding out for when DJ and I go to Waco in a few weeks. Our salesman ended up showing us this table, and we had looked at it in another store, and I just wasn't sold, but DJ was. Once we put it in our home, I fell in love. I love that the wood matches our hardwood floors and I love the mixed media of metal. It gives a little rustic vibe, and I really like mixing old and new. This one is similar.
We had originally planned on getting rid of the end table, but it ended up fitting next to the sofa. However, this is a piece that needs a major upgrade, and I'm leaning between a few options.

Part of me still wants to get rid of it altogether, and replace it with a floor lamp.

I have also looked at buying a gold end table, but I can't convince my mom that it's the modern touch we need. And yes, I realize it's my house and I'm a grown woman, but I really value my mom's decorating advice. Here are a few options that I've looked at:

On this one, I like how the 'x' mimics what's on our cocktail table.
And I've considered a solid option
This chair belonged to my grandmother. It was originally covered in a green satin, and she had it recovered for us when we got married. It's a perfect little chair to sit in and cozy up with a good book, and I picked up the pillow last week at Target.
And here's another view of our living room from our master bedroom.

DJ and I purchased the blue console table from an online yardsale group and before we moved in, I painted it blue and spray painted the brass handles. It's quiet possibly my favorite piece in the room.

A lot of furniture is a mix and match, and I've pieced it together over the years. Each piece has a story and I love them together.

Feeling Patriotic

While we were home (all of one day) last week I decided to break out the Patriotic decor for the 4th of July! However, I realized that I have very little in terms of 4th of July decor! We are never home for the 4th so I don't decorate for the holiday, but this year, we are going to be home and I felt that our house needed to be a little more festive!
Hey look, I'm finally using Snapchat!!!! You can find me at ElaineWelte
Our dining room table. I like to keep decorations here pretty minimal since we eat all of our meals here. I took the big wooden tray from my grandmother when she passed away. No one wanted it, but I loved it and had originally planned to put it in my living room on our coffee table, but it found it's spot in the dining room.
I filled my large apothecary jar with red apples and placed red votives all around.
And added these little flag salt & pepper shakers that I did have.
And I filled a mason jar with little American flags.
And added a big red apple.
Over in the kitchen, I pulled out the banner that I used for Adalyn's 1st birthday party!
I mean, I did have a few patriotic decorations left over from her party. The scrappy banner needed to be ironed majorly bad! And, it was super easy to make years ago..... I simply cut small rectangular shapes out of scrap fabric that I had. I cut some straight across, some at an angle, and others with points, and then I sewed them together.
I filled a mason jar with a few apples.
And filled this antique jar that was my grandmothers with a few more flags.
I picked up some paper straws at Target.
And on the other side of our kitchen, I updated our little chalkboard sign.

A Little Vacation: Lake Style.

The Friday of Father's Day weekend, we loaded up and headed to DJ's parents house in Arkansas! We were there Memorial Day weekend and weren't planning to go until later this summer, but DJ has to be back at work sooner than we realized, so we shuffled around our little summer trips!
We arrived around 4 in the afternoon, and DJ's parents had to head out to a dinner they had planned. While they headed to dinner, we headed to the lake.
The girls love taking turns driving the boat with their dad.
And our American Girl dolls came along too.
Meggie was a little fish! She jumped right in and had tons of fun!
Gretchen's a water baby, she has always loved being at the lake!
Sisters!

Saturday morning we took a short drive over to DJ's sister's house for our niece's birthday party.
We left a little early and ate pizza and then made a trip to Home Depot with DJ's dad. The girls loved the race car buggy!
We spent the rest of the afternoon at Emmie's birthday party- playing in water toys, and eating birthday cake and popsicles!
Nana and Addy had a water fight! Nana lost!!!
Sunday morning, we woke up to bright skies and sunshine!
And, it was Father's Day!!!!!
We decided to give DJ his Father's day present on Thursday night. It was too large to take with us.
He's been wanting a new weed-eater, so that's what he got!
And then he put it together and went to weed-eat the grass.
DJ and the little girls ran an errand Sunday morning, so I joined Gretchen outside while she played in the sandbox.
And then it was time to swim!
Just hanging out with DJ and watching our girls swim.
Family picture time! Minus Gretchen since she was too busy swimming. And y'all, that look on Addy's face!!!!! I have no idea what her deal is!
And then time for silly faces!
Oh yes, that's better!
Silly faces!

Monday morning, we woke up and headed back to DJ's sister's house. His mom was still in town and we wanted to spend some time with them. We stopped at Target and then the mall where they met us, and then we headed to CFA for lunch.
The girls traded in their toys for ice cream!
After lunch, we headed to the football facility at Arkansas State. This is where DJ and I went to college and where it all began. Just about 12 years ago, we met and my love of football was forced to begin! ASU has grown a ton! They recently built a new press box and indoor facility and thanks to their video coordinator, we were able to tour both. And, they were impressive!
We headed back to DJ's sisters house and the kids played in the sprinklers again.
I get the feeling these two will be life long buddies.

We spent Monday night, had lunch with DJ's mom, and then headed back to the lake.
I mean, traveling is what we do best in summer!
Snack buddies.

Unfortunately, Addy and I were both super tired on Tuesday afternoon. I tried to get her to take a nap, but she wouldn't unless I layed down with her...... 2 hours later, I woke up and it was time for dinner!
But, later that night we had tons of fun!
Wednesday morning's are for dog piling!
I could literally lay here all day every day.
She was so much happier!
And then she was tired! She and Megan both fell asleep on the boat!
Snack time!
Meggie and I tubed together, Gretchen and I tubed together, and then I tubed by myself. We broke out the knee board, and I learned that I'm not as young as I use to be! But, I eventually got up twice, and then couldn't pull my 360 like I use to!
Love this little girl!
She wanted a picture of her baby!
We spent the evening on the lake, swimming and floating, and we ended with an epic water gun fight!
Dinner time finally rolled around and the girls wanted to fish while dinner was being cooked. We didn't catch anything, but that's probably because we were using corn for bait!

Thursday morning we packed up and headed home to regroup before we left for Dallas!!!! I'll be recapping that trip soon!!!!
