Meggie Turns 5

Megan turned 5 at the end of May and we spent all month celebrating her! Because life has been crazy and we've spent several days out of town, I'm just now getting around to writing about her birthday celebrations!

#middlechildproblems

And fair warning, but this post may be long and picture heavy!

Megan's birthday fell right after school was over, so we asked her teachers if we could celebrate anyway! They were having an alphabet countdown to the end of the school year, so on "P for Party" day, they celebrated all of the summer birthdays and we brought a gigantic cookie cake for her to share with her friends. Since, it was for all the kids, I didn't have her name on the cake, but she picked out Hello Kitty!
I'm not quite sure, but she has a thing for Hello Kitty, that kind of came out of nowhere, but she's obsessed.
I had ordered her a special birthday shirt, but it didn't arrive in time for her "P for Party" day at school. Her teachers made her and all of the summer birthday kids a party hat to wear!
I've said all year, but I love having my girls at school with me. While Megan isn't with me, her school is right down the road from mine, so I was easily able to sneak over for her little events.
The birthday girl and I! Our school was having a pajama day, so pardon my pj look!
After her friends had their cake, they sat on the carpet and shared about their day and sang a few songs, and I hung out for a little while.

Megan's actual birthday party was super fun and easy to plan! She took gymnastics this year so we decided on a gymnastics theme and a local tumbling gym.
I broke out my embroidery machine, and made her a special birthday shirt for her to wear for her party.
Her shorties are Matilda Jane, and shoes are from Target.
I have so many emotions about this girl turning 5!!!!!

5 means that she's about to start kindergarten! And, the way that she has blossomed out of her shell the last two years is amazing! She loves school and she loves to have fun, but she's also shy and timid at the same time. It takes her time to warm up to new people and new ideas. We moved to Oklahoma two weeks after she was born, and that summer was the most difficult summer ever for me. But, she was always a shining light. She is an amazing little sister and an amazing big sister! She's a little mommy, but wants to be grown up and big too!
Ready for her party to begin!

Since we were having her party at a gym, we knew there wouldn't be much decorating involved! I ordered invitations from Etsy, and we invited her friends from school and a few others as well.
We ordered cupcakes from Lily Asher and they did not disappoint! I loved the swirled icing of aqua and pink. Megan's favorite colors are pink and purple, so that's what we used for her decorations, along with a splash of aqua.
I mean, I kept the decorations crazy simple. Fun striped pink plates, a purple napkin, and aqua table cloths for easy clean up! And, Megan insisted on party hats, so I picked up polk-a-dot hats from Target!
A friend of ours sends home cookies as party favors, and I loved the idea and simplicity of it! I mean, let's be honest- who really wants a bag full of junk toys? I use to go all out with party favors, from cute buckets, cups, and filled them with all sorts of things for the party theme, but now, the idea of a cute decorated cookie just makes my heart go pitter patter, and I can breathe a lot easier! So, I ordered gymnastic theme cookies from Sweet T's Cookiehouse and wrapped them in little bags for each child to take home.
Tiffiney, just so happens to be a fellow coaches wife, and she does an amazing job at decorating cookies! I mean, these were definitely a work of art, and they were yummy too!
She also ships, so be sure to check her out on Facebook

Once we were all set up, guests started to arrive, and they were able to play in the open gym.
Addy loved the little trampolines.

And everyone took turns trying to climb the rope to the top.

She loved running around with her friends!
And trying out the balance beam.
She was on the go the entire time!

Addy learned her back handspring with daddy's help!

And they hula-hooped like pros!

They played on the rings and did flips.
And then it was time to head to the party room for cupcakes and juice!
Megan was not excited about her friends singing "Happy Birthday" to her! She totally shut down, which surprised me even though she's done this every year! She does not like when all of the attention suddenly turns to her.
I mean, she didn't even want to blow out her birthday candles!

And then we finally convinced her she had to because the wax was all over her cupcake!
All of her friends dug right in!
After cupcakes, we went back out in the gym so she could open her presents. I was hoping to take a ton of pictures, but she didn't want to be the center of attention and wanted me to help her, so this was the only picture I took of her opening presents!

And, then it was play time again!
They flipped over bars.

Our party host, was amazing! She works at the gym and teaches a class and she helped everyone learn and practice their skills.

Meggie is definitely our little gymnast!

Friends that handstand together.....
She even helped Adalyn!

And after a while, it was time for guests to head home! We cleaned up, and then we took all of these girls home!

The day of Megan's actual birthday, we were in Arkansas with my mom. We had just had my grandma's funeral the day before, and DJ had to head home for work, so my mom and I celebrated the day with her, her sisters, and her cousin.
We had plans to take the girls to an indoor play place, but we had some errands to run, so we settled on lunch, play time, and ice cream, at Chick-Fil-A.
There's not much better than ice cream cones???
I love this little birthday girl!
She got a booster seat for her birthday!
We ended our celebration by paying at the park!

Megan- I have loved celebrating you all month long! You are a shining light in our family and we love you to pieces!
