This past weekend, DJ and I headed to Waco, Texas for a little getaway! My mom volunteered to watch the girls (and my sister in law helped out too!) One of DJ's co-workers was getting married, so it was the perfect excuse for us to head out of town!
As I was uploading pictures for this post, I joked that I should have entitled it "Eating our way through Waco" because I feel like that's all we did!
We left my mom's house bright and early on Friday morning. We stopped for a quick breakfast and then grabbed a snack mid-morning, but didn't really stop to eat until we made it to Waco. Obviously that was first on our agenda!
Our hotel was downtown and thankfully so was Cricket's! I wasn't planning on getting an appetizer, until our waiter suggested Fried Pickles, and I was all like "oh yes, we must get Fried Pickles!"
And he brought us the biggest basket of fried pickles ever! And they were so freakin' good!
For lunch I ordered a club sandwich, and again, I wasn't going to get a side dish since we had so many pickles and then our waiter told me they had sweet potato fries, and I said "heck yeah", and then told him he wasn't allowed to suggest anything else for us!
The food was fabulous! DJ ordered their brisket burger and regular fries because he doesn't value a good sweet potato fry.
After lunch, we headed next door to Spice Village. A friend had recommended it and I was up for some shopping! So, Spice, is upstairs in this building, and it's basically a ton of booths set up. There were booths with cute signs, vintage finds, Baylor shirts, hair bows, women's boutique clothing, shoes, vintage letters, jewelry, and so much more! I ended up not buying anything but it was super fun to walk through and there was some cute stuff!
After Spice, we headed to Baylor football. DJ had tried to get in touch with the video coordinator there, but he wasn't in, so we drove around their football area a bit, and stopped in to see if their video coordinator was in, and he wasn't. Since, we missed out there, we decided to head to the place that is the sole reason I wanted to go on this trip Magnolia Farms.
I mean, when I found out that there was a wedding in Waco, I was all about going because then we could head here!
So, in my head, Magnolia Farms would be this area on the outskirts of Waco, but it's right downtown. There are two old silos that Magnolia Farms was built around. There's a parking lot in back and tons of parking on the side, or you could pay $10.00 to park at a church down the street. We found parallel (free) parking with no problem.
But, it was also a Friday night around 4:30 when we arrived.
And, the place was fairly empty! Which, I was relieved because I had seen pictures of friends that had been here and they had to stand forever in long lines and I was not excited about that.
See that green grass. It's turf! It was a genius for them to put in turf rather than real grass!
We went in to the Magnolia store first.
And I easily found a few goodies!
And then we walked around the property a bit.
Magnolia Farms is a city block big, and they have a turf field perfect for soccer and playing games!
We walked over the garden area.
And how cute is this fairy garden! I totally want to do this with the girls, but I know ours won't look this cute!
DJ and I didn't look at anything else at Magnolia that afternoon and headed back to our hotel.
After checking in and lounging around, we headed out to explore a bit more. There's an old suspension bridge that was down from our hotel, so we explored there. And I took this picture because I knew that Adalyn would appreciate the horse.
We walked across the bridge and back again.
And according to our head coaches wife (who lived in Waco) we walked across and took our picture on a bridge that every prom couple has had their picture taken on.
And then we found the most amazing food truck. Here's the thing about Waco- food trucks are everywhere in downtown. There was a little food truck park set up across from the suspension bridge park, and there were food trucks at Magnolia Farms.
According to Harper Design Co, Pokey O's is the food truck to find if you're in the mood for something sweet! I wasn't hungry because we had eaten lunch so late, but I can always go for some ice cream!
I went with their Cookie Monster Ice Cream (blue vanilla with cookie dough and oreo cookies) sandwiched between chocolate chip cookies! It was amazing!
After ice cream, we headed back to Cricket's for a drink and then we found ourselves at a bar next door.
Saturday morning we slept late and headed back to Magnolia Farms for breakfast. We skipped their bakery on Friday, so we headed back. We also decided that if the line was too long, we could eat from one of the food trucks. The crepe truck was calling my name! But, the line wasn't long at all (there were like two small groups in front of us) so we went right in.

Look how cute it is!
So, I almost got a cranberry orange biscuit.
And look at these cinnamon rolls! (please take off the almonds)
But, DJ and I both settled on a blueberry muffin.
And our bellies were happy.
We walked around the silos again and went in to the garden shop and then back in to the main store, where I picked up a new placemat and a gift for my mom.
And then we headed to Harp Design Co.
And I was slightly disappointed because this place is small. There wasn't a lot of parking and the neighborhood was sketchy.
But the inside was adorable, and you can tell that Clint really takes pride in his work and does a fabulous job creating pieces.
The store was small, but I'm thinking he didn't plan for it to be a huge deal until he became famous on Fixer Upper.
I found these shelves that I wanted, but I'm thinking my father in law can make them for me! So I snapped a picture to show him what I wanted. #christmasgift
And then we headed to Ninfa's for lunch.
And again, the food did not disappoint!
After lunch, we drove back over to the Baylor stadium and walked around. We stumbled upon a boat show, and then we drove around Waco, to the lake, and then back to our hotel.
And I spent the next two hours getting some sun.
And then it was wedding time!

The wedding was gorgeous, the bride was beautiful, the food was good, and the people were fun.
After the wedding, we headed next door to a hotel bar with some friends. One of them found a selfie stick at the wedding, so we tried it out.

Sunday morning we got up and decided to head straight back to my mom's house.
With one little detour...... one of our friend's told us about the Little Czech Bakery in West, Tx. and that was a must stop on our way home. They told us that it didn't matter how long the line was, but that we just needed to stop.
And once we walked in, I instantly knew why.
I mean- so yum!
I had an apple kolache.
And a cinnamon roll.

So, with full bellies and happy hearts, we headed home to our girls!
And that is how we ate our way through Waco!
