Apparently, our Easter was so fun that I had to split up my recaps into two editions! You can see yesterday's recap here. Later this week, I'll be recapping the rest of our weekend- yes, it was that busy!
The Easter bunny arrived, and the girls went through their baskets first thing in the morning!
Adalyn was given a bunny bank, a blow up toy, a plate, chocolate bunny, Minnie Mouse puzzle, crown, and a new doll.
Gretchen received a blow up toy, puzzle, plate, American Girl doll outfit, American Girl "Grace" book, "Indiana Jones" dvd, a crown, chocolate bunny, and a necklace.
Megan received a Doc McStuffins blanket, puzzle, plate, blow up toy, chocolate bunny, new panties, a necklace, and a Doc charm bracelet.
We try to steer away from candy and just give the traditional chocolate bunny.
Megan had asked for Doc McStuffins underwear last week, so that's just what she got!
Gretchen was really excited about her American Girl doll outfit!
Hobby Lobby has the cutest Easter plates! So glad the Easter Bunny brought these!
Gretchen trying on her crown.... fit for a princess!
Adalyn is in love with her ballet baby! Unfortunately, she lost one of them over spring break, so I let her pick out a new baby at Target, hoping she would love it, but as soon as she gave it a hug, she threw it down and said "No!" I don't think we will ever replace ballet baby!
Once we opened Easter baskets, I made pancakes and then we got ready for church.
It was raining, so we had to take all of our pictures inside. Here's DJ with the girls.
And, just the big girls. Adalyn is not much a fan of posing for pictures right now, so I didn't even try!
Here I am with the girls.
After church, we came home and had grilled cheese sandwiches and leftovers! We planned on cooking a big meal for dinner, so we wanted to eat light for lunch. With little kids, it's just too hard to come home from church and try to prepare a traditional Easter meal.
After lunch, Adalyn went down for a nap, and the rest of us watched Indiana Jones. Actually, DJ and the big girls watched it, and I took a nap!
When Adalyn woke up, we hid the Easter eggs inside the living room.
Adalyn was being a goof!
Gretchen was a rock star during the egg hunt! We finally had to tell her to stop, just so her little sister could get some eggs!
Megan didn't move as fast, but thankfully, with some of daddy's help, she was able to find plenty of eggs!
Gretchen ended up getting about $7.00 in her eggs.
And Megan made a measly $2.00!
We fill lots of plastic eggs with change and let the girls hunt for money! This was a tradition in DJ's family, so it's fun to let our girls find eggs with our spare change, and then they put it in their piggy banks afterwards.
Once our egg hunt was over, the girls and I made Resurrection Rolls. We had made them a few years ago, and they were a total bust! You have to seal the marshmallow in nice and tight in order to get the full affect!
Resurrection Rolls are so easy to make! You buy a can of refrigerated crescent rolls, a bag of large marshmallows, melt 1/4 c. (or 1/2 a stick) of better, and mix cinnamon and sugar together.
The girls and I talked about how God forgives us of our sinners. Because we are sinners, are hearts are black, but once we accept Jesus into our hearts and ask for forgiveness, he cleans our hearts, and turns them white. (This is the representation for the marshmallow.)
Then, you'll dip the marshmallow in the melted butter, and roll it around in the cinnamon and sugar. We talked about how Mary Magdalene, Mary, and Salome were going to Jesus' tomb to apply spices for buriel, and how the butter and spices represented this.
Then, we placed the marshmallow inside the crescent roll, which represented Jesus' tomb once it was sealed.
We baked for 10 minutes, and most of the marshmallows had disappeared! Which, should represent Jesus' resurrection, however my girls lovingly referred to it as "Jesus melting!"
We'll try again next year!
The girls were so excited to eat their rolls before dinner!
Yummy!
We had a really low key Easter day. Our morning was busy, and the rest of our day was pretty relaxing! The weather was cool and rainy, so it ended up being the perfect day to hang inside and enjoy our little family!
Hoping you and yours had a blessed Easter!
