It's my last Spring Break trip recap, and I might have to say that one of these days was my favorite of the entire trip. We had planned on leaving Gulf Shores on Thursday, driving half way home and arriving home on Friday so we would have the weekend, but we found out that DJ's nephew had a baseball tournament in Oxford, and since we were closer to Oxford than we were to home, and since we don't get to see them often, we drove to Mississippi instead.
We woke up Thursday morning, had breakfast, did a load of laundry, packed up the camper and drove to Oxford.
On our way out of Gulf Shores, we drove right by the battleship. I went as a child. DJ and I went when we had a bowl game in Mobile a few years ago, and if you haven't been; I'd definitely recommend the stop!
We made it to Oxford right around dinner time. My parents who were with us at Gulf Shores decided to drive to Oxford to spend the night there too before they drove home the next day. My stepdad's niece also lives in Oxford, so they met us for dinner.
I texted one of DJ's co-workers who went to school at Ole Miss and asked for restaurant recommendations and he did not disappoint. We would've had to stay a week to try everything he had recommended!
Our first stop was at Ajax to eat dinner. The food portions were huge and the food was delicious.
We made it to our campground late at night and it was pretty sketchy. There were a lot of spots closed, a creepy white van, a thunderstorm at night, and when we woke up, we realized we were right across from a cemetery! So creepy!
That morning, we had breakfast in my parent's camper, and DJ's mom had driven over from Jonesboro to spend the day with us.
After breakfast, we packed up our campsite, said good bye to my parents, and dropped the camper off at the baseball park where our nephew's tournament was being held. We were able to just sleep there that night; it was great that they had RV Spots!
Then, we headed back to the square, and made our first stop at Square Books.
Gretchen was in heaven.
We walked around the square and in and out of the little shops.
Adalyn had her picture made with William Faulkner; had we had time, it would have been so neat to visit his home there.
The courthouse sits at the center of the town square.
We stopped at Volta for lunch for the margaritas and greek food.
The hummus and pimento cheese plate was amazing!
And for our non-Greek food fans, we ordered fries with cheese and bacon.
I had the best lemon chicken gyro. It was so juicy, the best flavors. I could have died happy after this meal.
After lunch we headed over to the Ole Miss campus. We figured that it's time to start doing college campus tours for Gretchen because she's already looking, but we laughed, because she's been on so many campus' already! We had to take a peek at the Walk of Champions and where their tailgates are held on game day.
Then it was back to the square for ice cream!
I picked chocolate with and hot fudge!
We sat on the square; enjoyed our ice cream and then went back to the baseball fields for our nephew's game.
The girls had a blast playing together!
Saturday morning we got up and met for brunch. I swear we ate our way through Oxford and all of the restaurant recommendations made by our friend were spot on.
After brunch, we said our good byes and headed toward home. We made an overnight stop in Texarkana and then drove home Sunday.
Adalyn woke up super fussy and complaining of a headache, so she rode home in her pj's! We made a stop at Buccee's, for gas and lunch, and finally our Spring Break trip came to an end.
Our trip was great! We had some long traveling days, so me rainy days, and some cool days, but being able to get away and then being able to see family throughout our trip was priceless!
