The Final Home Game

Saturday was our "last" home game of the season.... sort of :) 

We actually play at home the day after Thanksgiving, but the girls will be at my parents, so I'll be hanging sans kids at the final game. Kick off was at 6:30, and I was pumped for a night game, because we were able to actually get things done during the day! 

Ready to head to the game..... my sweatshirt is here. 

Gretchen was at her school play performance all day Saturday, so she missed the game. It was just the little girls and me, and they were ready. 

We got there early and DJ brought us our family passes because he forgot to bring them home. It was our Veteran's day celebration game, and the staff wore green shirts and sweatshirts, and I loved them. 

Thanks to a fellow wife, we were able to get a family picture before the game. 

And then the girls and I headed to Smokey's Midway. We tend to skip out on some of the pregame festivities because it's so crowded, but the girls loved the midway games!

They played at least 4 games, and didn't win a prize :( But I promised they could try again.... next year! 

As we were heading back to the offices, Adalyn wanted to say hi to the army guys hanging out. They invited the girls in and on top of the army vehicle for a picture! So cool! 

We watched the first few drives of the game from our seats, grabbed dinner, and headed inside to the meeting rooms for the rest of the game. 

Texas threw an interception in the end zone, and we headed on to the field. I texted my mom that we had just lost the game, and wouldn't you know, we somehow came back and scored and headed in to over time. We watched overtime from the tunnel. Kansas went for 2 on their drive, and we ended up loosing by 1. 

The girls found DJ on the field, gave him a huge hug, sang the Eyes of Texas with the team, and then spent some time playing on the field. 

Visiting Bevo is a must. 

And so is visiting Hook 'Em. 

Now that my girls are the "big: girls, they love getting to play with and entertain the "little" kids. Football really is family.  

 

Family & Football

October for us has been full of family visits and football games. 

We played OU at the Red River Rivalry a few weeks ago. This year I was determined not to go, because the last 3 years, the 2 times I've gone, we lost the game. So, I was hoping I would bring our team some luck by staying home. Seeing the pre-game predictions for the 'horns made me hopeful. We watched the game at home on the sofa, and I was happy to be on my cozy sofa instead of in the crowd. Unfortunately, we ended up falling behind in the 2nd half, which means, I'm not the cause of our luck, and I'll go the game next year- ha! 

My parents came down for the weekend of the Texas/OU game, and after the game we headed to the park. The weather was gorgeous. I love having my mom here and chatting with her. 

And I swear we don't get a lot of pictures when we're together, so I made sure we had a new one. 

Sunday night was football dinner, and my parents were able to join us. 

The girls played on the field and we showed my parents around the new facilities. 

The week went really fast and the following weekend, Nana was in town. We somehow made it to the game early enough to walk down Bevo Blvd and take in some pregame fun. 

Adalyn was too excited to get her picture with this gigantic inflatable Bevo. 

And too excited to cheer in the stands. This girl is our biggest fan. The only Welte girl that really cares about football. She is a lifer. Her big sisters eventually made their way inside to watch Disney in daddy's office. But, Adalyn stuck it out the entire time. 

We played OSU, and gah, lost it in the 4th quarter. It was quiet a stressful game, and I'm never happy when it gets close like that. I yell and scream and shout and things get a little tense. Ha! But, the end is still my favorite part, because that's when the girls get to run on the field and hug their daddy's neck. 

Nana and I had to get our picture made too. We are so thankful she was able to come down and take in a game with us. 

And Sunday morning, we had an extra family member with us at church. Her sweet momma is a good friend of mine, and she just had a baby, so we took big sis off her hands for the night! The girls had a blast playing with each other!

It sure has been a fun two weekends of family and football for us! This weekend we are heading in to a bye week, and who knows what we have planned (because we keep changing our minds and can't decide) but we do know that DJ will be home and we are so grateful for that!

 

Life Lately

Well, September was basically a bust for our family. Adalyn got sick and had to miss 10 days of school which meant that I had to take time off work.  I was super prepared to get "all the things" done, but I tend to forget that sick babies just want a ton of cuddles, and when sisters aren't home to play, that means, I get to entertain. 

We played a ton of Skipbo. So, much skipbo. 

After I sent her back to school, I had a few more days home, and made another loaf of Sourdough bread. Gosh, now that are family is switching to gluten free, I'm going to have to start the process over again from the beginning.

And after she went back to school, she would come home to more cuddles. This girl is the biggest cuddler. 

We dropped big sis off at church, and then headed to pick up Megan from gymnastics.... but first, we stopped at the park to see the ducks.

Gretchen had Fall church camp, so it was just the little girls cheering on Texas as we took on Texas Tech. 

We bought pom poms and the girls had tons of fun with them. 

And my favorite part is always after the game when we get to hug daddy on the field. 

We also got to see Bevo! 

Right after the game, we headed to Megan's gymnastics meet. 

And DJ was able to finish up at work and meet us there! We are so thankful he was able to watch her compete! 

Last week, Gretchen and I went to the movies with DJ's aunt. She's recently moved to Austin and we are so thankful to have more extended family nearby! We went to see Dear Evan Hanson, and it was so good!

This past weekend, we traveled to San Antonio for another competition, while DJ traveled to Fort Worth for a game. Megan placed 3rd in floor, 5th in Beam, 7th on Bars, and 9th on Vault, and placed 7th all around! We were so proud of her! 

While we were cheering Megan on, we also cheered on our horns to a victory over TCU!

It was a pretty great weekend! 

 

The Fans Are Back: Game Week 1

College football is back, and man did it look different than it in 2020. It felt so good to see fans in the stands and get back to our normal game day experience. Kick off was scheduled for 3:30, so around 1, the girls and I left to head to stadium. After a mix up on which direction we should take (because why would they keep it the same after the last 3 seasons?) We got parked, and headed inside the new facilities. 

The girls were pumped that DJ now has a dry erase wall, and since it was a clean slate, they decided to decorate it for him. 

We headed down to the field for all of 10 minutes to snap a few pictures. 

We saw Bevo. 

And watched the players warm up. 

Eventually, we made it to our seats, and had to kick some students out. Sigh. We sit right by the student section, so without fail, we always have students in our seats the first few games. 

I will say, it was pretty awful. The students were standing, and loud (as they totally should be), but it was also 100 degrees, and after the crowd getting to our seats, the girls were not excited. They had headphones and toys, but they were not happy. So, I managed to keep them there for 1 quarter so I could watch a few plays of the game. 

and then we went inside. They've opened one of the meeting rooms for families, which was fabulous. We had seats, air conditioning, and some space to play. 

After the game, we headed back to the field to celebrate the win. 

And the girls were able to visit the cheerleaders again! 

and Hook 'em! 

We basically played on the field until the fans were cleared out. And take a peek at that new end zone facility. DJ has spent countless hours in meetings making that building perfection, and it looks fabulous! 

One more quick picture with Smokey before leaving the field and heading back to see DJ for a few minutes. 

After he got the game film wrapped up, we did a quick little tour of the facilities. 

I have to say, the barber shop chairs might be a favorite. 

And the walls in the team room are so fun.

We topped of the weekend with a visit back to the offices for family dinner.

And that wraps up our first game day of the season. 

This next weekend, we take on Arkansas. Megan has a meet, so we'll be watching the game on TV rather than going in person. But we will definitely be cheering loud.
