Life Lately

Happy Wednesday! I'm just sharing some random pictures from recent life. 

First up........ Megan is growing right up. It's hard to believe she's the same age as Gretchen was when we moved to Texas, and is wearing those hand me downs. She still consistently wears pigtail braids and is my favorite hippie child. She also occasionally reads my blog and will have no idea what that means. 

We had gorgeous weather one Friday afternoon, so Adalyn and I took her school work outside. 

She also helped pick out a diffuser blend one afternoon. 

And, she helped cook dinner. 

My March Young Living order came in and lots of these oils were free :) 

I ordered Ningxia Red, DJ's shave cream, shampoo, body wash, and lots of oils! 

It's so great having a little wellness box shipped right to our door each month! 

The girls made brownies one afternoon. 

And Gretchen made a new loom bracelet. 

DJ's aunt came to visit on Thursday, and brought games for the girls. She taught them how to play dominoes while I did my teletherapy call. 

And then we skipped school work, headed out to lunch, and went to the park! 

It was also April Fools and the girls got me good! I woke up to the toilet paper roll falling to the ground, my protein powder scooped taped to the lid. The girls pretending we had an Alexa..... Adalyn tricked me that she was bleeding (it was really food coloring) and then they put cupcake liners all in my car! And finally, Megan managed to get a cup of water on the top of our bathroom door, so when I went to the bathroom, water splashed everywhere! 

They got me good and I was glad when the day was over! 

Despite all that, Megan slept in our room two nights last week, and one morning, I woke up, thinking she was already awake and off playing, but she was actually sleeping way down in her sleeping bag and completely covered up. I couldn't even find her head! 

On Friday, the girls learned about tornadoes and made a Medusa art activity. They also watched a video explaining who Medusa was. 

We topped off Friday with a night with cousins and Megan had the best time chasing Evelyn around! 

 

Easter Sunday

I hope you all had a blessed Easter Sunday.

After being out of church for the past year, we were excited to head back to church, but a kink was thrown in our plans, and it reminded me that the weekend Jesus died, probably didn't go as planned either. 

I'm so thankful it didn't. He wouldn't have fulfilled the prophecy and taken our sin upon His shoulders. I'm so thankful for that gift. I'm not a perfect Christian, but man am I thankful for a God that forgives and a Savior that died for us. 

Friday evening, we had company and Adalyn didn't feel well. She had a slight fever and she threw up. We cancelled all of our Saturday plans except our family bluebonnet pictures. I actually tried to cancel but rescheduling was going to be a nightmare and by mid Saturday, Adalyn was feeling better and hadn't ran a fever since that one little time Friday night. She rallied and our photographer was fabulous and didn't mind at all. 

DJ snapped the picture above with me and the girls, and I snapped a quick one of each girl, and I love how these turned out with my camera so I can't wait to see what the photographer captured.

We drove home, had a quick dinner, and dyed our Easter eggs. 

The girls can do it solo, so DJ and I were loving it! 

They did a fabulous job! 

We kept it simple, because we celebrate Easter with just the 5 of us, so the girls dyed 4 eggs each. 

After they dyed eggs, Adalyn said she was tired, and I happened to take her temperature again and it was right at 100.2 

I put her in our bed and we made the call that going back to church wasn't going to happen. 

The Easter Bunny came and did his job after the girls went to bed.

Gretchen received lots of thread for her bracelets! 

Megan received colored pencils, a sketch pad, and a Skipper toy. 

Adalyn got a new Skipper too and LOL dolls. 

She woke up around 7:30 but she was not feeling it. 

She wasn't running a fever, but she just didn't have a ton of energy. 

We had a lazy morning, watched online service, and waited for the Easter Bunny to drive around our neighborhood! He gave out little bags of candy and Megan and Adalyn thought it was so much fun! Afterwards, we had a small egg hunt in the backyard. 

Growing up, I had always dyed eggs in my family and we would take them to my aunt's house and all come home with everyone else's dyed eggs. But, DJ's family always had plastic eggs with money, so that's what the girls hunt for. After the hunt, they counted their money. 

We also use the same amount of colored eggs and each girl has their own color to find so it's fair. 

After our egg hunt, the girls played, DJ watched basketball, I worked on laundry, and DJ made smoked pork tenderloin for dinner. 

Our Easter was simple, but we were together as a family and that is all I could ask for. 

 

Arkansas Part 2

After spending Mother's Day with my parents, we drove to see DJ's family in northern Arkansas. Once we arrived at his mom's house, the girls finished school work, we ate lunch, and then we headed to his sisters house. 

Gretchen was pumped when her cousin wanted to play Monopoly! They played outside, rode bikes, threw the baseball, and jumped on the trampoline.

After dinner, it was slushie cups for everyone! 

Tuesday morning, we got up and drove to DJ's dad's house. The girls had to finish their school work in the afternoon and they were not happy about it all! 

After dinner, they were much happier when they got ice cream! 

Megan read to her grandparents dog, Precious. 

We stayed up late playing the family card game, "Oh Hell" and Wednesday morning, after DJ had some work calls, we packed up to head back to my parent's house. We were thrilled when we found a Tropical Smoothie on the way! It was one of our favorites in Tulsa, and I literally just found out we had one in Austin, but it's clear on the opposite side of town. 

Once we arrived on Wednesday, we unloaded, and left the girls with my parents so we could go visit a friend from college. Then Thursday morning, we headed home! 

It was a much needed week away! 

Arkansas Part 1

Mother's Day weekend, DJ and I were suppose to be on a cruise. Thanks to Coronavirus, our cruise was cancelled, so we headed off to Arkansas instead. 

Thursday morning, we loaded up and these girls were settled in for the long drive ahead of us. 

They were even able to do some homework on the road, which was so nice that we could just bring school and even work along with us. The girls did great in the car. We only had to stop twice on the drive. 

When we arrived at my mom's house, we had dinner, and the girls begged for a ride on "the green machine". Gretchen even got to drive! And when my brother took me for a ride with the girls, he mischievously rode us through the creek and got me soaked! 

It was sure was good to be home. 

Friday was uneventful. I worked and did teletherapy and the girls played with their cousin. 

Saturday morning, the mommas headed out for pedicures. 

We found out TJ Max was open, and of course we had to go in! The line to check out was wrapped to the back of the store, but we decided to divide and conquer, and one person stood in line while the others shopped, and we took turns. 

Meanwhile, DJ and my brother took the girls fishing and they all caught one! 

Addy wouldn't touch her fish! 

When we got home, the girls had set up a Mother's Day parade. My stepdad, brother, DJ, and our dog all participated! 

Then it was time for a crawfish boil! This girl and her daddy love crawfish. The rest of us- not so much! 

On Mother's Day, we had breakfast, and took the girls to visit the family cemetery. It's been 4 years since my grandmother passed away, and it's hard to imagine it's been that long. She is still so deeply missed. 

My mother walked them through the family cemetery and gave them a little history lesson about who was who and how they were related. 

We had my sister and brother there for a Mother's Day lunch cookout and it was nice to be all together. 

We finished off the day with a dip in the freezing cold pool and massages by the pool! 

We hadn't seen my family since January, and it was so wonderful to be with them again! It also did us good to get out of the house for a bit and just be home!
