Sugar Bowl: Days 1 & 2

Two days after Christmas, we packed up, and headed to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl with the Texas Longhorns. And, spoiler alert, we won the game!!!!

I've already shared a ton of pictures on social media, but I like to blog about our trips too, because one day, the girls will have this space to look back on. But, I promise, i'll try to keep it as short as possible :)
DJ flew out on the 26th, so he could set up the meeting rooms at the team hotel. We met the team on campus, and flew out with them.
These girls were pumped and ready for New Orleans!

We go through security on campus, ride the team bus, and then we're dropped off right at the plane.
When we boarded, we were given Chick Fil A, and then had a bag of snacks waiting for us.

It was SO much food y'all! The girls had fruit, chicken nuggets, chips, and a cookie in their CFA bag, while I had the same thing plus two CFA sandwiches and a salad.

In our snack bag, we had grapes, chips, and a snickers, plus a gatorade and water.

Megan said, "this is the best flight! They give you more than just peanuts and pretzels!"

Clearly, we like to eat :)
We arrived in New Orleans and settled in to our room, and made it to the kids play room where there was a bounce house and video games set up.

The kids could've skipped the sight seeing and stayed here the entire trip, and would've been thrilled.
But, we had things to do :) We loaded up Thursday night with the team and headed to do a little bowling.
We didn't get to bowl, but the kids had fun playing!
Later that night, they were tucked in with their Nana babysitting, and I was in my house shoes enjoying a few drinks in the hospitality suite.
Friday  morning was raining, but we braved the weather anyway.

We stayed about a half mile from Jackson Square and walked to see the church and enjoy the atmosphere.
We weren't letting the rain spoil our fun.
We watched a street performer....
and finally headed inside.

The church was gorgeous all decorated for Christmas.
and when we came out, the sun was shining and the rain had stopped!
We headed over to Cafe Du Monde for beignets!
The line to get in was insanely long, so we went to the take out line, which was much shorter!
We found a spot by a fountain and enjoyed hot chocolate and beignets.
We walked around the square and did some shopping.
The girls were mesmerized by the street performers who are "statues" and this guy was really nice. We later saw him on Bourbon street a few days later.
Friday night, we met up with friends DJ had worked with when we were in college. The Peoples were influential in his life, and always built him up to believe in himself. We were so thankful to see them again and have drinks and dinner.
They took us to Bistro Daisy, which was delicious.
Saturday morning, we rode the trolly and met my niece for lunch at Superior.
Lunch was yummy, I had their Lobster and Crab soup, which was perfect for a cool day, and we rode the trolly in the Garden District before making our way back to the hotel.
Saturday night, DJ and I had a dinner with the coaches and staff. We got to dress up, so that was fun!
We each had a white chocolate place card holder.
and the center pieces were the Sugar Bowl trophy design
Dinner was wonderful! We started out with soup and gumbo, and then had a fish course, followed by a steak course, followed by the best bread pudding.
We ended our night with a super blurry elevator selfie heading to the hospitality suite!

Christmas Festivities

Happy New Year friends!!!

We are back from the Sugar Bowl, and I'm getting around to blogging again :) We're catching up today with Christmas Even and Christmas day festivities. If you caught my post last Monday, you know that Christmas was different around here.

We started off our morning with our North Pole Breakfast, but unfortunately, Adalyn had been running a fever and was not feeling herself, and for the first time in months, our entire family was home, and we spent most of the day being super lazy.
Finally, in the afternoon, we baked chocolate chip cookies for Santa as is our usual Christmas Eve tradition.
And then I was feeling bummed because we weren't going to be in church on Christmas. I was scrolling Facebook, and our church from Tulsa popped up with their Facebook live of their Christmas Eve service, so we attended virtually.
We all miss our church tons.
After the service, we rushed to make reindeer food.
It's just a super simple mix of oatmeal and sprinkles.
We stirred it all together, and I put some for each girl in a baggie.
These girls were ready to sprinkle their reindeer food!
They spend so much time sprinkling it all over the yard.
We left a key out for Santa since our new home doesn't have a fireplace.
And then each girl picked out a perfect cookie for Santa.

Cookies and milk set out and three girls ready for bed!
But first, we had to hug our elves goodbye!
Every Christmas Eve we let the girls hug the elves since they're going home with Santa anyway ;) They love that they're able to pick them up, hug, kiss, and cuddle.

Megan said, "they're so tiny!"
One more kiss, and then off to bed.
Our girls went to bed early this year, and they all fell fast asleep despite promising each other that they wouldn't sleep at all, so they could catch Santa in the act.
Gretchen's big present was her Harry Potter coding kit.
Megan got a balance beam.
and Connect 4 for family game nights!
Gretchen asked for Harry Potter lego sets.
And all of the girls received Fire tablets.
We're such Apple people that we're still figuring these out, so if you have any tips/tricks for them, let me know!

DJ has been asking for cowboy boots for years now, and he finally received them!

The grandparents gave lots of toys!
And we had to include some Longhorn gear for Christmas too.
After we opened presents, we opened our stockings.

and Addy played on her bike for a bit, even though she still wasn't feeling 100%
The little girls received scooters for their American Girl dolls.
They all spent the rest of the afternoon playing with their new toys.
Gretchen built lego sets all afternoon!
I received a new diffuser, and set it up immediately.
And later, Megan and DJ built the lego set she received for Christmas.
By the end of the day, Adalyn was feeling much better and wanted to go on a bike ride, so we rode around the block.

We came home, and jumped on the trampoline (thanks Gee and Papaw!), and then Adalyn crashed hard!

We didn't cook any fancy meals, we spent most of the day in our pajamas, and we enjoyed being together as a family.

It was a simple day and pretty much perfect.
