Summer Road Trip 2019 Recap 1

A few weeks ago, we set out a 3,000+ mile road trip! I had been dreading all the time in the car, but the girls did SO good! I mean, we couldn't have asked for them to be better!
We woke up Sunday morning, packed the car, and settled in. The girls have ipads, fire tablets, and packed some toys and books to keep them busy, and each of them had headphones. I don't know how our parents survived road trips when we were younger. Praise the good Lord for non-stop internet access.
We drove a few hours north to West, Texas and stopped at the Czech stop for kolaches.
I picked Nutella, of course!
Loaded back in the car after lunch and headed for my mom's.
It's about an 8 hour drive to my mom's house now, and we only had to stop twice! Once in West, and once in Texarkana. Of course, Adalyn fell asleep 30 minutes from my mom's house.
DJ helped my mom cook dinner that night.
Monday morning, we both got up and went for a run and then we went and looked at RV's.
We had been looking at buying one last Spring, but then we moved to Austin, so we're chatting about buying one next year and taking another massive road trip!
Tuesday morning we loaded up the car and headed for Nashville! It's about a 6 hour drive from my parent's house, and again, the girls were great!
We pulled in to Memphis right at lunchtime, so of course, we stopped for some.....

Memphis style BBQ!
We ate at Central BBQ and it was SO good! The service was quick, but we were able to sit down, which I really enjoyed. And, there was so much food! I ended up splitting a bit of my BBQ and sides, and Gretchen ate some of DJ's ribs. She's our BBQ loving girl!
She couldn't get enough!
After lunch, we walked across the street to the Lorraine Motel. We honestly didn't realize it was right across from Central BBQ when we picked our lunch stop, but it was a great surprise.
The hotel is frozen in time. It was honestly such a humbling experience. Of course, the girls have learned about Martin Luther King in school, but getting them to experience seeing the exact spot he was assassinated was.... well.. I don't have a lot of words. I'm just thankful that we had the opportunity.

It sickens me the racism that still exists today. And growing up in the south, it was definitely evident amongst my peers in our youth. I know that as an adult, my eyes and mind have opened and I do hope that our world will continue to look beyond someone's race. People are SO much more than the color of their skin.

The small window on the top right is where the gunman was.

After our visit, we got back in the car and drove straight to Nashville.
We opted to stay in an Air B&B and it was perfect. I fell in love with this flag and the decor.
Each room was full of antiques and old photos.
It just felt quintessential Nashville.
After dropping off our bags and taking just a little bit of time to rest we headed downtown to the Wildhorse Saloon to meet friends for dinner.
Three girls, hungry, and ready to explore!
So, my dear friend, Chrissy and her family drove down from Kentucky to have dinner with us! Chrissy and I have been online friends for 3 years now and have never met! She's on my oily team, and she has the biggest heart I've ever seen! I was so excited to meet her and her family, and next week, we'll be spending the entire week together in Salt Lake City at Young Living's convention!
After dinner, they headed home, and we explored downtown.
Broadway street was the happening place to be! All of the bars had windows open and there was music coming from each of them.
We wandered in for some ice cream, walked some more, and then headed back to the B&B for some much needed sleep!

That wraps up our first few road trip days! I'll see y'all back here for our first few days in Nashville!

6 is Sweet!

On July 5th, Adalyn Pearl turned 6 years old. We had so much fun celebrating her while we were on our vacation! She got lots and lots of birthday celebrations and she was super spoiled!

Back in June, we had her birthday party with her friends.
Adalyn is such a light in our family. She was an unexpected surprise, and an even bigger blessing! We didn't know how much we needed her, but God did!

She's definitely our baby. She loves to cuddle and be held. And yes, she still sucks her thumb. She looks up to her big sisters and wants to be just like them. Megan's her best buddy and Gretchen sets such a wonderful example and loves to spoil Adalyn.

This year she finished kindergarten, and her best friend was her little yin to her yang.

She loves gymnastics, but is really wanting to take ballet lessons this year.

Her favorite lovie is her Hello Kitty that my niece brought her from Hawaii. She use to be all about her ballet baby, but about a year ago, she decided she was too big for her.

Adalyn carries a baby doll wherever she goes, and takes care to pack her babies a diaper bag and bring along the car seat.

She absolutely loves 1:1 time- we love to sneak off to Target together or make Costco runs. (she really just wants the samples!)

She has been so funny lately! She has lots of little one liners that crack us up all the time! She's extremely honest and observant.

We just love her big!
While we were in Indiana, we celebrated with her Nana over an ice cream cake.

Ice cream cakes were a tradition with DJ, and Adalyn has definitely embraced them!
We headed to the lake in Arkansas and spent the entire day of the 5th bowing to her every wish!

On July 4th, I kept telling her "tomorrow you're going to be 6!" and she'd get so excited, and eventually just said, " I know mom!" because she was over me telling her!
Lake hair, don't care!
We watched a few fireworks, and I whispered to her that the last firework, was especially for her and her birthday! She was exhausted and quickly fell asleep without really wanting to take a "last night as a 5 year old" picture.

But, she did tell us that after she went to bed, we needed to decorate the game room and told us exactly where to put her presents.

She wanted to open presents as soon as she woke up! She came in to mine and DJ's room and said, "I want my presents!" to wake us up. There was no way this girl was going to wait until dinner time!

We gave her an unicorn bike bell, and she was so excited!

On our trip, she kept saying, "I want this toy, and that toy, and this toy, and I also want this....." naming off toys she had watched in youtube videos! She had a list a mile long!
She also received a pikmi pop, and a Disney doorable.

She opened her present from Pops & Grandma Dee and was so excited that she received money! She did a great job counting it all!

Adalyn also requested doughnuts for her birthday breakfast, so Pops went out and bought them for her! See, totally spoiled!
She ate her first doughnut, and then picked out a second, and said "I want candles!" So, Grandma Dee went and got her 6 candles.
We sang her Happy Birthday and she blew them out.
After breakfast, we got ready for the day and took her to Wal-Mart to pick out a cake and toy. (she spent her birthday money on a new toy.)

Then we spent the rest of the day on the water, until rain came in in the afternoon.
After dinner, we cut her cake. She picked it out all by herself and chose the LOL plates and napkins.

Of course, we sang to her again, and she made another wish.
The next day, we made it to my mom's, and when we walked in, she was baking a peanut butter cake. Adalyn was so happy because Gee was making her a cake, but she later found out that Gee was making that cake for DJ and me! (My birthday is actually today, and his is next week.) And that Gee had bough Adalyn an ice cream cake.
Spoiled some more by grandparents #3.
We all ate cake, and then opened presents from Gee & Papaw.
Adalyn got more money and was so excited! It's burning a hole in her piggy bank for sure!
