DJ's Happy Place

I'm pretty sure that DJ is the happiest when he's at the lake. He grew up on the water, and I know that he loves "coming home".

Part 2 of our vacation, was a fun-filled weekend at his dad's house in Hardy, Ar. Hardy is a tiny little town about 30 minutes south of the Missouri/Arkansas state line. The town originated as a retirement community and boasts several lakes as well as the Spring River, which we've canoed down only once.

Thursday morning was spent with lots of chores and getting ready for all of the company that was coming up for the 4th and for Adalyn's first birthday party!
Adalyn showed off her climbing skills while we were there.
And Gretchen pretended that she grew a noodle arm.
Meggie and Grandma Dee floated in the lake.
Then it was Gretchen's turn.

The girls were little fish while we were there.
Meggie started getting really tired around dinner time. She crawled up in my lap and in no time she was asleep.
After dinner, Pops and Gretchen went fishing.
Then they collected sticks for a bonfire.
We had a bonfire that evening and Gretchen insisted on telling scary stories, and later that night Grandma Dee brought out the s'mores.
I had no idea, but Pops and Grandma Dee have NEVER had s'mores before! I'm pretty sure they're not human.
Meggie was pretty scared of the bonfire. She has gotten really fixated on chewing over the past several months, especially when she's afraid. She chewed and chewed on her "baby doll blanket" while we were all sitting around the fire.
Gretchen was loving being with her grandparents!

After s'mores and scary stories, we put the big girls to bed (Adalyn was already asleep) and we stayed up to wait on traveling relatives! I hit the hay around 11, and I think everyone else stayed up until 2 am catching up!
