Gee and Pa

Gretchen loves her Gee and her Pa. I don't think she quiet understands that they are her grandparents, because of hte names we've given them, but I try to explain to her that they are in deed her grandma and her grandpa.

She thinks that she has only one grandma- her great-grandma, which, is actually my grandma. If I try to tell her that her great-grandma is actually my grandma, she get's very mad at me! She doesn't understand that she actually has 3 grandma's and 2 great-grandma's. As well as 2 grandpa's, and 1 great-grandpa. I think that's one of our problems of us living so far away from our family.

Although, when they visit, she is so excited to see them, and she picks up exactly where she left off with them. Lately, she refers to Gee as 'your mommy', rather than her Gee or her grandma. She'll say, 'your mommy did this' or 'your mommy got me this'. My mom loves to talk on the phone to Gretchen- the problem, is that Gretchen doesn't always want to talk to Gee. So, we manage on speaker phone, so she can at least hear her voice. The other night, Gee was trying to get Gretchen to call the hogs, while DJ was encouraging her to root for Ohio. I'm very thankful that Gee gets to visit as often as she does, which, still isn't often enough!
Gretchen loves her Pa too! And, I think Pa is more likely to spoil Gretchen than Gee is. He pretends that he doesn't, and he pretends that my mom spends too much money on Gretchen, but the thing is- he is just as bad. For her very first Christmas, he bought her a rocking horse- a gorgeous one, but he did this all on his own; not even a hint from anyone else- and 2 years later, she still loves it. Just this past Christmas, he bought Gretchen a Buzz Lightyear drumset- not because she needed it, but because he thought she could use it and might want it- after all, she was pretending that our plastic bowls were drums and "crash cymbols". Even though she had enough gifts, he couldn't possibly resist buying her one more!
Gretchen's blessed to have many wonderful grandparents- we are so thankful to have each of them in our lives!
